JR Beppu Station has banks of coin lockers on both the East (sea) side and West (mountain) side, including large lockers that fit carry-on and medium suitcases; many accept IC cards like SUGOCA and Suica. If the big lockers are full, or your bag is too large, the Yamato Transport (Kuroneko) counter in the Ekimachi 1-chome Beppu station mall offers staffed storage and same-day or next-day delivery to hotels. Drop bags here, then head to the hells by bus from the West Exit with only a day pack.
