Shichirigahama Beach 七里ヶ浜
A long surf beach right beside the Enoden tracks, famous for its anime-perfect views of Enoshima and Mount Fuji, and for sunset sessions with surfers in silhouette.
About
Shichirigahama runs about 3 km between Inamuragasaki and Koshigoe along Route 134, with the Enoden trains rolling along the coast behind it. Swimming is not allowed here (strong currents and surf), so it belongs to surfers, walkers and photographers. The postcard view looks west to Enoshima with Mount Fuji rising behind on clear days, best in the colder months. The beach and the nearby crossing at Kamakura Koko-mae Station became world famous through Slam Dunk and other anime, and the area has a string of cafes, including the famous pancake spot bills on the hill above the station.
Highlights
- Enoshima and Mount Fuji framed across the water
- Surfers riding the waves at sunset
- Enoden trains running along the coast just behind the beach
- Short walk to the Kamakura Koko-mae crossing made famous by Slam Dunk
- Seaside cafes on the hill above
Tips
- Swimming is prohibited at Shichirigahama: do not go in beyond your knees.
- Fuji is most often visible from November to February in the morning and at sunset.
- The Kamakura Koko-mae railroad crossing gets crowded; be considerate of residents and traffic.
- Sand can be steep near the waterline; watch children closely.
