Koshigoe Beach 腰越海水浴場
Kamakuras westernmost swimming beach, a short stretch of sand right next to Enoshima and the Koshigoe fishing port, where the shirasu (whitebait) boats come in.
About
Koshigoe sits at the western end of Kamakura, just east of the Katase fishing port and the bridge to Enoshima. It is the smallest and most local of Kamakuras three swimming beaches, popular with families from the neighbourhood, with a short line of beach huts in summer and fishermen working the port next door. Koshigoe is a shirasu town: boats land fresh whitebait in season, and the shops along the Enoden tracks serve it raw or boiled on rice. The beach is a convenient place to cool off after visiting Enoshima, with the island right in front of you.
Highlights
- Enoshima right in front of the beach
- Small, local, family-friendly swimming beach
- Fresh shirasu whitebait at the fishing port and nearby restaurants
- Short walk to the Enoden trains running down the street at Koshigoe
Tips
- Kamakuras swimming season is set each year, recently July 1 to August 31.
- Shirasu fishing pauses from January to mid-March; raw shirasu is only available on days the boats go out.
- Walk to Enoshima across the Benten Bridge, about 10 minutes.
- Beach rules ban loud music, BBQ and drinking outside the huts.
