About

Amazake Chaya is a thatched-roof rest stop on the Hakone section of the old Tokaido highway, run by the same family for generations. Walkers stop for amazake (sweet rice drink) and grilled chikara mochi by the irori hearth. It is reachable by bus or on the stone-paved old road hike toward Moto-Hakone.
