Toyoiwa Inari Shrine 豊岩稲荷神社
A tiny fox shrine hidden in a one-person-wide alley behind Ginza's high-end boutiques, reached by squeezing between restaurant back walls.
About
Between Ginza 7-chome's Suzuran-dori and Sotobori-dori, a narrow passage barely wider than your shoulders leads to Toyoiwa Inari, a pocket-sized shrine of red lanterns, stone foxes and offerings tucked against the backs of buildings. It is said to have protected the area from fire, and locals pray here for matchmaking and business. Ginza is famous for its rooftop and alleyway inari shrines, and this is the most atmospheric: the hush, the smell of incense and the glow of the lanterns are surreal after the Chanel and Hermes flagships around the corner.
Highlights
- Alley so narrow you walk single file to reach it
