Tokyo Mizumachi Riverside and Skytree 東京ミズマチ
A row of shops built into the Tobu railway viaduct along the Kitajukken River, with Tokyo Skytree towering directly overhead and trains rumbling above.
About
Tokyo Mizumachi opened in 2020 inside the brick-faced viaduct between Asakusa and Tokyo Skytree stations. Walk the riverside path on the south bank of the Kitajukken River and shoot east: the viaduct arches, cafe terraces and the river lead your eye to Skytree rising behind, and Tobu trains pass along the top of the viaduct. Dusk and blue hour, when the shops and Skytree light up and the river reflects them, are the best time. Keep off the cafe terraces unless you are a customer and keep tripods out of the narrow path.
Highlights
- Skytree rising above viaduct arches and the river
- Trains passing along the top of the viaduct
- River reflections at blue hour
- Cafes and bakeries along the path
Tips
- Blue hour gives reflections of the lit Skytree in the river.
- Walk across the Sumida River Walk from Asakusa to get here.
- Shoot from the riverside path, not from private cafe seating.
