When the Oyokogawa canal was filled in, Sumida City turned its bed into a sunken green corridor of shallow water channels, ponds, bridges and gardens. The north end lies almost at the foot of the Skytree, giving one of the best ground-level views of the tower framed by water and willows. Further south there are childrens play areas, a wading stream in summer and quiet sitting spots under the old canal bridges. Free entry.

Tips

Start at Narihirabashi Station for the Skytree view and walk south.
