About

Opened in 2012 to carry digital broadcasting, Skytree's latticed steel trunk is shaped like a triangle at the base and a circle at the top, its design borrowing from traditional pagoda earthquake engineering with a central concrete 'shinbashira' column. A 50-second elevator rides to the Tembo Deck at 350 m, a three-level ring with floor-to-ceiling windows and a glass floor panel. A second elevator rises to the Tembo Galleria, a sloping glass tube that spirals up to Sorakara Point at 451.2 m. At the base, Tokyo Solamachi has 300 shops and restaurants, plus Sumida Aquarium and a Pokémon Center. At night the tower glows in alternating 'Iki' sky-blue and 'Miyabi' purple lighting.
