Up a steep staircase in Golden Gai's 3-bangai, La Jetée has eight seats, walls covered in film posters and signed memorabilia, and a long history as a gathering place for international filmmakers visiting Tokyo, including Chris Marker himself, Wim Wenders and Sofia Coppola. Kawai-san speaks French and English and is a gracious host to anyone who loves cinema. It is not a cocktail destination: come for a whisky or shochu and conversation about film.
