About

Run by the Genki Sushi group, Uobei replaced the traditional conveyor belt with three tiers of express lanes. You order from a tablet (in English and other languages), and a few minutes later your plates shoot along the track and stop right in front of you; press a button to send the empty tray back. Most plates are priced in the low hundreds of yen, so you can try salmon, tuna, seared mackerel, gunkan with corn-mayo, ramen bowls and desserts without much damage to the wallet. Quality is solid fast-food sushi rather than market-grade, but the experience is pure Tokyo novelty and great with kids. The Dogenzaka branch, just up from Shibuya Crossing, is the most famous and the busiest.
