About

Few local museums mix rice paddies and galaxies, but this one near Horikiri does both. The history floors trace the Kasai district from prehistoric shell middens through the Edo-period farming villages that supplied the city with vegetables, to the small factories and nagaya row houses of the 20th century; reconstructed rooms and everyday objects make the Showa section especially evocative. Upstairs, the planetarium, reopened in November 2025 after an overhaul, runs narrated shows, and a rooftop observatory with a large telescope opens for public stargazing on certain evenings. Entry is cheap and its rarely busy, making it a good rainy-day stop between Horikiri Iris Garden and Tateishi.
