About

Laid out on the outer moat of Edo Castle just beside JR Ichigaya Station's platforms, these fishing ponds have been a Tokyo oddity for decades, used in countless TV dramas. You rent a rod and buy bait (¥100 each), pay by the hour, and try your luck at the carp pond, the fish are big and fight hard, or at the 'mini fishing' pond for goldfish and smaller fish, where kids can keep a couple of their catch. Everything else is catch-and-release. There's a little tackle and pet-fish shop, and you can bring snacks and picnic between bites. It's a lovely slow-down activity for families, couples and anyone curious about everyday Tokyo, especially in cherry-blossom season when the moat banks bloom.
