Sotobori Park 外濠公園
A 2 km embankment promenade on the old outer moat of Edo Castle, lined with some 240 cherry trees above the Chuo Line trains and the boat-dotted water.
About
Between Iidabashi, Ichigaya and Yotsuya, the outer moat of Edo Castle survives as a long green strip on the old earthen ramparts. A gravel path runs along the top under rows of cherry and zelkova trees, with the water and the orange Chuo Line trains below and Hosei and Sophia universities on the bank. Locals jog, walk dogs and quietly picnic here during hanami while the crowds besiege Chidorigafuchi. Remains of Edo-period gate stonework (Ichigaya-mitsuke, Yotsuya-mitsuke) dot the route, and at Iidabashi end the walk with drinks by the water.
