About

When the airport expanded in 1945, Anamori Inari and the surrounding resort district were demolished, but the shrine's great torii stood on in the middle of what became the old terminal car park, reputedly because attempts to remove it were followed by accidents. When the terminal moved offshore, local people campaigned to save it, and in 1999 it was relocated to this spot at the foot of Benten Bridge on the Ebitori River, near where the Tama River meets the bay. Today it is managed by the national transport ministry and stands alone in a small riverside park, a striking subject at sunset with aircraft lining up behind it and the towers of Haneda Innovation City nearby.
