About

For decades the airport and the Tonomachi research district in Kawasaki faced each other across the mouth of the Tama River with no direct link. The Tamagawa Sky Bridge, opened in March 2022, closed that gap with a steel box-girder bridge whose 240 m main span is among the longest of its type in Japan. It carries one road lane each way plus generous cycle lanes and footpaths, so you can stroll from Haneda Innovation City into Kanagawa in about 15 minutes. Midway you get wide views upriver to the Tokyo skyline, downriver to the bay and Haneda's runways, and on clear days Mt Fuji to the west. At sunset the river turns gold and jets sweep overhead, making it a quietly superb free walk.
