About

Yoichi Takahashi, creator of the football manga Captain Tsubasa, grew up in Yotsugi in Katsushika Ward, and since 2013 the ward has placed bronze statues of his characters around Yotsugi and neighbouring Keisei-Tateishi stations. There are nine outdoor statues in all, including Ozora Tsubasa in Yotsugi Tsubasa Park, Hyuga Kojiro in Yotsugi Park, goalkeeper Wakabayashi Genzo near Tateishi, and the newest, Tsubasa performing the Twin Shot in front of Minami Katsushika High School, designed so fans can pose as Misaki Taro beside him. Keisei Yotsugi Station is decorated in Tsubasa style, too. Combined with a stop in Tateishi's legendary cheap izakaya streets, it makes for an unusual half day in a little-visited corner of Tokyo.
