About

BOOK AND BED TOKYO started in Ikebukuro in 2015 with a simple idea: a place to stay for people who love falling asleep while reading. The Ikebukuro original has closed, and Shinjuku is now the brand's main Tokyo outpost. It is on an upper floor of a building in Kabukicho, steps from Seibu-Shinjuku Station. Wooden shelves stacked with books in Japanese and English, from manga and design books to novels, rise to the ceiling. Narrow 'Compact' bunk beds are slotted into the gaps, so you crawl into a cubby surrounded by spines. Larger 'Standard' and 'Double' beds are also available, and the windows look out over the neon of Kabukicho. It is not luxury: shared bathrooms, lockers and minimal soundproofing are part of the deal. But it is one of Tokyo's most photographed small spaces, and a cheap, central place to sleep. The lounge cafe serves drinks and seasonal snacks.
