About

Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine has protected the town since the Ota Dokan era and draws young visitors for matchmaking charms, including the sea-bream fortune 'fished' with a small rod. Its main hall is covered in fine Edo-period carvings, and in summer thousands of glass wind chimes hang along a corridor. One of Japan's largest wooden torii stands at the entrance.
