Yodoyabashi Bridge 淀屋橋
An Important Cultural Property: the 1935 granite-faced arch bridge carrying Midosuji over the Tosabori River, named after the merchant family that built the first bridge.
About
The first bridge here was built by the wealthy rice merchant Yodoya, whose rice market operated at the southern end before moving to Dojima in 1697. The current bridge, a steel-reinforced concrete arch faced with granite and topped with lamp posts, was built in 1935 under the Midosuji widening project based on a design competition. With its twin Oebashi on the other side of Nakanoshima, it was designated a national Important Cultural Property in 2008. It looks across to Osaka City Hall, the Nakanoshima Library and the riverside promenade.
