Sendanoki Bridge 栴檀木橋
A pedestrian-friendly bridge over the Tosabori River with a direct, front-on view of the red-brick Osaka City Central Public Hall.
About
Sendanoki-bashi ("chinaberry tree bridge") was first built in the early Edo period to connect the merchants of Senba with the domain warehouses on Nakanoshima. It was rebuilt several times, most recently in 1985, and is one of the "50 famous bridges of Naniwa". Its real draw is the view: it lands right in front of the Nakanoshima Library and looks straight at the 1918 neo-Renaissance Osaka City Central Public Hall, both lit up at night. A stone monument and guideboard at the south end tell the bridge's history.
