About

Osaka Castle Park covers the castles inner and outer baileys, which became a public park in the 20th century. Beyond the Main Tower, it has some of the most impressive castle stonework in Japan, 13 structures designated Important Cultural Properties including the Otemon and Sakuramon gates and the Sengan-yagura turret, and two broad moats you can circle in a Gozabune golden boat. The Baien plum grove, with about 1,270 trees of over 100 varieties, blooms from February to early March, and about 3,000 cherry trees bloom around early April. Miraiza, a 1931 castle-style former army headquarters, is now a restaurant building, and Jo-Terrasse by Osakajokoen Station has cafes. The perimeter is a favourite running course for Osakans.
