Konohana Ohashi Bridge 此花大橋
A 1990 self-anchored suspension bridge with a single main cable, linking Osaka's Konohana Ward to Maishima island over the bay.
About
Konohana Ohashi was completed in 1990 and won the Japan Society of Civil Engineers Tanaka Prize. Unusually, it is a three-span self-anchored suspension bridge hung from a single central cable (a mono-cable), with towers about 99 m tall and a 300 m main span. It is the main road to Maishima, home to the Maishima incineration plant designed by Friedensreich Hundertwasser and sports parks, and its towers stand out on the approach to Universal Studios Japan's Yumesaki area.
Highlights
- Mono-cable self-anchored suspension bridge (1990)
