Ticket without tea: ¥6,000
About
The Miyako Odori was first performed in 1872 to revive Kyoto after the capital moved to Tokyo, and it has been staged each April ever since by the geiko and maiko of Gion Kobu. The performances take place in the Gion Kobu Kaburenjo, the district's theatre on Hanamikoji built in 1913, which reopened in 2023 after a major seismic renovation. Each show is a sequence of dances on seasonal themes with vivid sets, opening with a line of dancers in identical blue kimono. Tickets with tea include a bowl of matcha prepared by a geiko or maiko before the show. Outside April, the theatre's garden and building can be seen during Gion Corner performances, held in the Yasaka Hall on the same grounds.
