About

Kyoto Racecourse, on the banks of the old Ogura pond in Yodo, is one of Japan's major racecourses and hosts top-grade races like the Tenno Sho (Spring) and the Kikuka Sho in autumn. It reopened in April 2023 after a major redevelopment, with a new grandstand, gardens and a renewed paddock. The infield has a pond with swans, and there are playgrounds and food stalls. Entry is cheap, and racing days are a lively slice of local life.
