About

The Konodai plateau, rising sharply above the Edogawa, was a strategic castle site where the Satomi clan of Awa fought the Later Hojo in 1538 and 1564; legends and memorials to fallen warriors remain. Today Satomi Park occupies the old castle ground with a formal rose garden and fountain in European style, cherry trees, and paths along the bluff with views west over the river to Katsushika and, on clear days, Skytree. The Western-style Kan-Rotte-Kan house, once home of a Meiji-era painter, has been relocated here. Its a quiet, local favourite with spring cherry crowds that are still mild by Tokyo standards.
