Suginoi has towered over Beppu from the Kankaiji hillside since 1944 and is practically a town: several wings including the renovated Hana-kan, hundreds of rooms facing the bay, the Tanayu terraced outdoor bath, the Aqua Garden with pools and a nightly fountain and light show, bowling, arcades and huge buffet restaurants. It's not intimate, but the views are superb and families love it. Room rates include unlimited use of Tanayu and Aqua Garden, and there are free shuttles from Beppu Station.
