Beppu Kanmi Chaya 別府甘味茶屋
Rustic teahouse-style restaurant near Kannawa serving Oita's comfort foods: dango-jiru flat-noodle miso soup, sweet yaseuma noodles with kinako, and bungo zenzai.
Yaseuma: ¥440
About
Dango-jiru is Oita's everyday hearty soup: hand-pulled flat wheat dumplings (dango) simmered with taro, burdock, carrot, shiitake and pork in a miso broth. At Beppu Kanmi Chaya, a thatched-look teahouse with wooden benches, it comes as a set with tenmusu rice balls, and the sweet side of the menu stars yaseuma, the same flat noodles dusted with sugar and roasted soy flour, plus bungo zenzai sweet bean soup. It's open long hours, making it an easy lunch or snack between the hells and the onsen.
