About
Tsurugaoka Hachimangu was moved to its present site by Minamoto Yoritomo, founder of the Kamakura shogunate, and became the spiritual centre of the city. A broad stairway leads to the vermilion main hall, with lotus ponds, a dance stage and smaller shrines below. The approach from Kamakura Station runs past Komachi-dori shopping street.
