Katase Higashihama Beach 片瀬東浜海水浴場
The beach on the east side of the bridge to Enoshima, with gentle waves, a lively summer beach-hut strip and the island right beside you.
About
Katase Higashihama is Enoshimas "front" beach, stretching east from the Benten Bridge toward Katase fishing port. The waves are usually gentler than at Nishihama on the other side, which makes it popular with families, and in summer the sand is lined with umi no ie beach huts. Out of season it is a pleasant walk with views of the island, the Sea Candle lighthouse and, on clear days, Mount Fuji to the west. Shrine-goers heading to Enoshima pass right by it, so it is easy to drop in for a paddle.
Highlights
- Enoshima and its Sea Candle lighthouse right next to the beach
- Generally calm waves, good for families
- Lively umi no ie strip in July and August
- Fuji views to the west on clear days
Tips
- Swimming season and hours are set by Fujisawa city each year (usually July to August).
- Enoshima Station (Enoden) and Katase-Enoshima Station (Odakyu) are both within 5-10 minutes.
- In summer the Odakyu Romancecar from Shinjuku is the most comfortable way here; book ahead.
- Tattoos and loud music are restricted on Fujisawa beaches.
