About

Opened in 2008 on the reclaimed island of Higashi-Ogishima, this 15.8-hectare seaside park gives Kawasaki's residents a piece of coast. Its artificial beach, Kawasaki no Hama, is about 180 m long, with soft sand facing Tokyo Bay; swimming and fishing are banned, but paddling and, in spring and early summer, clam digging are allowed. Behind it are broad lawns, a barbecue area and a playground, and the view takes in giant car carriers, tankers, the Aqua-Line wind tower and aircraft on the Haneda approach. At sunset, the surrounding industrial skyline begins to glow, and Kawasaki Marien's free observation deck is a short walk away.
