About

TRUNK(HOTEL) opened in May 2017 on a quiet lane between Harajuku and Shibuya and set the template for a new kind of Tokyo hotel. Mount Fuji Architects Studio designed two linked four-storey buildings with dark geometric forms, tiered balconies spilling greenery and a glass-and-wood chapel on the roof for weddings. The interiors by Jamo Associates and Line-Inc use Japanese-made furniture, local crafts and a lounge wall of reclaimed wood from old Japanese houses. The founders' 'socializing' idea means the ground floor belongs to the neighbourhood. TRUNK(LOUNGE) is a cafe-bar and coworking spot by day and a DJ bar by night. TRUNK(KITCHEN) serves seasonal food on the terrace, TRUNK(STORE) sells locally made goods and the TRUNK(KUSHI) skewer bar sits nearby. There are only 15 rooms, so it feels exclusive. A larger sibling, TRUNK(HOTEL) Yoyogi Park, has since opened.
