About

The Setagaya Line is a surviving stub of the old Tamagawa tramway, a 5 km light rail line between Sangen-jaya and Shimo-Takaido that runs mostly on its own right of way past back gardens, cherry trees and level crossings. Its compact two-car trams come in different colours, and a maneki-neko lucky-cat themed tram, with cat-paw hand straps and cat-ear roof, has run on and off since 2017. At Miyanosaka Station, a vintage tram that served the old Tamagawa Line and later the Enoshima Electric Railway is preserved beside the platform and can be boarded for free during community centre hours. Gotokuji Temple, the birthplace of the maneki-neko legend with its thousands of white cat figurines, is a five-minute walk away. Ride the whole line end to end in about 20 minutes.
