About

Moved from Otemachi to Tokyo Skytree Town in 2014, the Postal Museum covers 150 years of Japanese post since Hisoka Maejima founded the modern system in 1871: early red and black post boxes, the uniforms and lacquered satchels of Meiji couriers, mail carriages and motorcycles, and dioramas of post offices. The stamp room holds a vast archive of roughly 330,000 stamps from Japan and around the world, viewable in pull-out panels. Children can sort mail and send postcards, and there is a working post box for themed postmarks. Autumn 2026 exhibitions cover postal architecture and its functional beauty (Oct 3 to Nov 23) and the story of coffee told through stamps (Oct 1 to Dec 27).
