About

Known as TOP Museum, this is the best place in Tokyo to see photography, with a collection of more than 37,000 works that runs from 19th-century daguerreotypes and Meiji hand-tinted prints to Daido Moriyama, Nobuyoshi Araki and international masters. Three galleries over different floors usually host three simultaneous exhibitions, so there is almost always something on, from historical surveys to contemporary video art. The entrance wall features giant reproductions of famous photographs, including Robert Capa's Falling Soldier and Robert Doisneau's kiss. The building also has a cinema screening independent and documentary films, a well-stocked photo bookshop and a cafe. It anchors the Ebisu Garden Place complex, near the Yebisu beer museum.
