About

The first Tokyo EDITION opened in October 2020 on the upper floors of Tokyo World Gate in Kamiyacho. It was a collaboration between hotelier Ian Schrager, the inventor of the boutique hotel, and Kengo Kuma, architect of Japan's National Stadium. The lift drops you into a 31st-floor lobby lined with layers of warm timber slats. Cascades of plants make the space feel like a greenhouse, and full-height windows frame Tokyo Tower so closely you could almost touch it. The Lobby Bar is open to all, serving coffee by day, afternoon tea in the afternoon and cocktails at night, with a DJ some evenings. The Jade Room + Garden Terrace serves modern European food with an outdoor terrace above the city, and the gold-lined Gold Bar at EDITION on the ground floor is one of the most photogenic cocktail bars in Tokyo. Rooms are minimalist, with oak, white linen and balconies on many floors.

Tips

• The Lobby Bar takes reservations mainly for afternoon tea; otherwise it is first come, first served
• Come at dusk to watch Tokyo Tower light up from the lobby windows

• Combine with Azabudai Hills, a 5-minute walk away
