About

NHK started regular radio broadcasts from Atagoyama, one of central Tokyo's few natural hills, in 1925, and the museum opened on the same spot in 1956. Four floors trace broadcasting from crystal radio sets and early microphones to the 1953 start of television, colour TV, satellite broadcasting and 8K. Highlights include the radio and TV sets of each era, props and puppets from beloved children's programmes and taiga historical dramas, and a mock studio where you can read the news or a weather forecast. A library lets you watch archived programmes. Admission is free. Next door, Atago Shrine tops the hill, reached by the famously steep stone steps of success.
