About
Somei Cemetery opened in 1874 on land that was once part of the Somei village nurseries, where the Somei-Yoshino cherry was developed in the late Edo period. Its paths are lined with cherry trees and lead past the graves of Mito Tokugawa family members, sculptor Takamura Koun and poet Takamura Kotaro. It is a calm, low-key hanami spot near the busier Sugamo shopping street.
