About

Bongo is a family-run counter where onigiri are shaped by hand in front of you, so lightly that the rice almost falls apart, and stuffed with generous fillings that often spill out of the top. Choose from more than 50 options, from classic salmon, ume (pickled plum) and tarako (cod roe) to egg yolk with soy, sujiko (salmon roe), or a double-filling combo. The nori is crisp because it's wrapped on the spot. Set meals add miso soup with tofu and pickles. After features on Japanese TV, international media and countless social-media clips, the line outside the small shop near Otsuka Station regularly stretches down the street, but most people agree it's the best onigiri they have ever eaten.
