About

Sakura-bashi, opened in 1985, is a rare X-shaped footbridge across the Sumida that links the Taito and Sumida sides of Sumida Park. Both banks are lined with hundreds of cherry trees planted since the Edo shogun Yoshimune's time, so in late March and early April you can shoot from the bridge with pink canopies along the river and Skytree standing to the south. The bridge's curved, crossing decks also make interesting leading lines on their own. Outside sakura season it is a calm spot for sunset across the river and for Skytree's night lighting, and during the Sumida River fireworks in late July it is inside the restricted crowd zone.
