About

Shoto is Shibuya's most exclusive residential hill, and its small ward museum is an architectural treat few visitors know. Shirai Seiichi's 1981 building wraps rough red Korean granite around a deep oval atrium with a fountain at its base, crossed by a slender bridge; inside, a curved salon with velvet chairs and onyx windows feels like a 1980s secret society. Exhibitions range from Edo painting to surrealism to design, and are rarely crowded. Nabeshima Shoto Park and the Toguri ceramic museum are a minute away.
