Nabeshima Shoto Park 鍋島松濤公園
A sunken spring-fed pond garden on the old Nabeshima tea plantation, with a waterwheel hut and turtles, a few minutes' walk from Dogenzaka's love hotels.
About
In the Meiji era the Nabeshima lords of Saga ran a tea plantation here called 'Shoto' (pines and waves), the name the neighbourhood still carries. Now it is a small, deep park around a spring-fed pond with ducks, carp and turtles, an old-fashioned waterwheel cottage, wisteria trellis and wooded slopes. Grandparents bring toddlers to the playground; residents read on the benches. It sums up how Tokyo flips from chaos to calm in a single block: Shibuya's nightlife is barely five minutes away.
