About

Opened in 1964 by the Japan Science Foundation, the Science Museum sits in Kitanomaru Park, the former northern enclosure of Edo Castle, in a distinctive 1964 building with a star-patterned facade. Five floors of interactive exhibits cover electricity, bicycles, motors, iron, energy, and digital tech, often sponsored by Japanese industry, with experiment shows and workshops throughout the day. It is aimed squarely at families and school groups, and kids can spend hours pushing buttons, building circuits and riding the bicycle exhibits. Unlike most Tokyo museums, it closes on Wednesdays (irregularly) rather than Mondays.
