About

The Rainbow Bridge carries two free pedestrian walkways, the North Route facing the city (Tokyo Tower, Shiodome, Harumi and Toyosu) and the South Route facing Odaiba and the bay. Lifts in the huge anchorages at each end take you up to the deck level, and the walk across takes about 30 minutes. For photographers the North Route is the prize: Tokyo Tower and the Minato skyline above the shipping lanes, with Yurikamome trains looping along the bridge right beside you. The safety fence is a mesh, so find gaps or shoot through the larger openings, and expect the deck to vibrate as trucks pass, which matters for long exposures.

Tips

Tripods are prohibited on the promenade; the deck also vibrates, so use fast shutter speeds and high ISO.
Enter from the Shibaura side (Shibaura-futo Station on the Yurikamome, 5 min) and finish in Odaiba for dinner.
Hours are 9:00–21:00 April to October and 10:00–18:00 November to March, last entry 30 minutes before closing; check before going.
Closed on the third Monday (next day if a holiday) and in strong wind.
