About

Completed in 2000, the NTT Docomo Yoyogi Building is mostly a telecommunications facility, but its tiered, spire-topped silhouette has made it one of Tokyo's best-loved skyline markers. Its stepped crown deliberately recalls New York's Empire State Building, and in 2002 a huge four-sided clock was added near the top. Including the spire it reaches about 240 m, and for years it was the tallest building in Shibuya Ward. There is no public access, but it appears in countless views: from Shinjuku Gyoen's lawns, from the Southern Terrace and from the Takashimaya Times Square side, and as a backdrop to the Yoyogi and Sendagaya streets. It is also a handy navigation aid; if you can see the clock, you know which way Shinjuku Station is.
