About

Nippori is where the Keisei Skyliner departs for Narita Airport and where JR's busiest northern corridor squeezes into a single trench. Shimogoinden-bashi, the footbridge just outside the station's north side, crosses over it, giving an unobstructed view of the Tohoku, Joetsu and Hokuriku Shinkansen, Yamanote, Keihin-Tohoku, Joban, Takasaki and Utsunomiya lines plus the Keisei tracks, around 2,500 trains a day. Metal plaques along the railings show the trains you are watching, and on weekends parents line the bridge with excited toddlers. It is a five-minute walk from Yanaka Ginza and the old temple quarter of Yanaka, so combine the two for a perfect slow-Tokyo afternoon. Inside the station, the Keisei platforms let you watch the sleek Skyliner up close before your flight.
