Ningyocho Shinodazushi Sohonten 人形町 志乃多寿司 總本店
Inari and futomaki specialist in Ningyocho since 1877: sweet-simmered tofu pouches and kanpyo rolls made the same way for nearly 150 years. Perfect cheap picnic sushi.
About
Not a nigiri counter but a slice of Edo food history: Shinodazushi opened in 1877 (Meiji 10) and still specialises in inari-zushi (rice in sweet-savoury fried tofu pouches) and rolls such as kanpyo-maki and futomaki. The tofu skins are simmered and then rested for several days so the seasoning soaks through, giving a deep, glossy flavour that regulars swear by. It is a takeaway shop in the old theatre and geisha district of Ningyocho, ideal for a train picnic or a snack on a walk around Amazake Yokocho and Suitengu shrine.
