About

Takashimaya's Nihonbashi main building blends Western classical and Japanese design and was the first department store building designated an Important Cultural Property. Uniformed attendants still operate its vintage elevators, and the rooftop once housed a baby elephant in the 1950s. Since 2018 the main store has been joined by the New, East and Watch Maison buildings to form a shopping centre; the East building houses Pokémon Center Tokyo DX.
