About

Ohashi Junction, where two Shuto expressways meet, is a giant concrete spiral; in 2013 the city wrapped its roof in a garden that climbs gently from about 11 m to 35 m above ground. Paths wind past cherry and plum trees, an apple and persimmon orchard tended by locals, flower beds and a small vegetable patch, with benches facing west, on clear winter days Mount Fuji appears on the horizon. Access is via the lifts of the Cross Air Tower residential complex next to Ikejiri-Ohashi. It is one of Tokyo's most surprising public spaces, and used almost entirely by residents.
