About
Lake Okutama was created when the Ogouchi Dam, finished in 1957 after 19 years of work, flooded the upper Tama valley to supply Tokyo with water. Visitors can walk along the dam crest and the observation deck for views over the lake, and follow the 12 km Lake Okutama Ikoi Road along the shore toward Yama-no-Furusato village. Cherry trees around the lake bloom in early April, and the surrounding mountains turn red in November.
