About

Kurumed opened in 2008 with the idea of a café as a place where people and community could grow slowly, like walnuts. You enter by a small door and step down into a dim, wood-lined interior full of books, small rooms and hand-made furniture. The menu leans on walnuts: walnut and maple cake, walnut toast and seasonal fruit tarts, with good drip coffee and homemade drinks. The café runs a small independent publishing imprint and hosts readings. On busy afternoons there may be a short wait. It is a beloved local institution and often appears near the top of Tabelog's café rankings.
